Martin is unsurpassed as a performer of English traditional song & dance music. His knowledge & skill is performing & restoring ballads is unequalled.
Participants will nominate a ballad in advance that they will sing & the group will discuss. (If in doubt about what counts as a ballad, ask us beforehand.)

Saturday 21 July MUSIC OF SALLY SLOANE WORKSHOP (for any instrument) with IAN HAYDEN

Sally Sloane (1894-1982) of New South Wales was one of the most important Australian traditional singers & musicians, playing one-row melodeon, fiddle & moth-organ.
Ian will guide attendees to play along with recordings of Sally to absorb her style & will provide a handout & dots for selected tunes.

Saturday 28 July PAUL SARTIN FIDDLE WORKSHOP

Paul is a brilliant fiddler, performing with Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast, Faustus & many more.
The workshop will cover traditional Southern English repertoire from the Pyle manuscript of Nether Wallop, Hampshire. Music will be provided on the day.

Paul is well known for his work with Belshazzar’s Feast, Hoover the Dog, Karen Tweed, The Playford Liberation Front & the Pagoda Project.
The workshop will cover musical arranging skills for concert performances, exploring harmonies, improvisation, writing countermelodies, textures & dynamics. Some music will be sent in advance & some arranged from scratch on the day.
