A brilliant piano accordionist, Karen is steeped in Irish music as a performer, tutor & scholar. She has performed with The Poozies, Kathryn Tickell Band & John Kirkpatrick. She teaches at the Universities of Newcastle, Helsinki & Limerick, & for Folkworks. The workshop will cover 3 of O'Carolan's works, arranged for ensemble, exploring arrangement ideas. For any player of intermediate standard & above. Notation / learning by ear will be used.
IN THE EVENING KAREN TWEED PERFORMS AT THE CLUB.

Mark Bazeley (melodeon & concertina) & Jason Rice (accordion, step-dancing) began playing in childhood absorbing the unique Dartmoor style from their respective grandfathers Bob Cann & Jack Rice. Rob Murch (5-string banjo) is a dazzling exponent of the rarely-heard classic finger-style banjo. The workshop will cover some of the repertoire & style of The Dartmoor Pixie Band.

VILLAGE MUSIC PROJECT for any instrument

The Village Music Project gathers the handwritten tune books of country dance musicians from the 17th. century onwards & publishes them on the internet for today's musicians to play. Some music will be available in advance & there will be a chance to inspect original manuscripts held in Barbican House, Lewes Castle.

Chris is a magnificent singer of ballads & other traditional songs. She has performed with Pete Coe, The New Victory Band, Bandoggs, English Country Blues Band, Red Shift & Ryburn 3-Step, & is a respected academic tutor of song, vocal techniques, drama & dance. She also plays hammered dulcimer & McCann duet concertina. You are invited to bring at least one traditional ballad to sing & talk about. To avoid clashes with other contributors, please state your preferred ballad in advance. If your choice has already been taken we will let you know so that you can choose another. If in doubt about what counts as a ballad, please use the contact email or phone to ask.
