'Tom is a brilliant fiddler & great singer; a wonderful ambassador of the James Hill musical tradition.' (Aly Bain). Tom's ground-breaking fiddle playing has had a huge influence on his contemporaries. The traditional sounds of Newcastle, Scotland, Ireland & America are fused with classical, jazz & bluegrass. The results are timeless. He has played with Bob Fox, Kieran Halpin, his own band Dabhand, Alistair Anderson's Syncopace, Phil Cunningham, Barbara Dixon, Chris Newman & Pauline Cato. He's an inspiration for the new generation of musicians including Seth Lakeman & Kate Rusby.
The workshop will focus on how to choose fiddle tunes & play them in a simple, lively & dynamic style, conscious control of the bow & violin, & the use of chords & embellishment. Some music will be sent out in advance.
