Bryony is a highly accomplished fiddler and distinctive singer in the English traditional style. Starting in her early teens in the acclaimed ceilidh band Bedlam, she later became a musician for Dog Rose Morris and the Newcastle Kingsmen, sang with The Witches of Elswick, & is a key member of the BBC Folk Award-winning Demon Barbers.

The workshop will use a selection of English folk songs and tunes to explore song accompaniment and arrangement on the fiddle. It will also cover elements of posture and technique. Some music will be sent in advance.

Provisional Timetable

10.45 Registration & coffee; order lunch (refreshments are not included)
11.00 A gentle introduction to playing fiddle and singing at the same time, playing the melody along with the song and adding some basic rhythms and drones.
12.30 Lunch
13.30 Adding a harmony line with fiddle. Same rhythm as the song, but different notes.
15.00 Tea/coffee break
15.15 Introduction to chords and rhythmic accompaniment.
16.45 Finish
